Quoting Wolfgang Müller <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>:
I would need a --append option to make it append to a collection
instead of replacing the collection (as it does today).
What do you mean? I do not really understand.
I have a collection with some 90000 images. Tonight, or any day now, I
will add a small buch of images to that collection. I think they are
about 300, but it doesn't matter.
If I were to just use the gift-add-collection.pl script to add the new
300 images, I would (unless there is an option I haven't yet found of
course), end up getting an url2fts.xml file containing 300 images, the
mrml-file that the server reads would say my collection contains 300
images, and the db files will just contain info for those new 300
images. The older 90000 images will be forgotten.
Oh, yes, one very important thing: After I have indexed my images, I
remove them from that particular disk, since I just want the server to
serve information on what images are similar. So the
gift-add-collection.pl script will not be able to "reindex" the entire
collection of images. If I had added the new 300 images to a directory
containg the old 90k images, and run gift-add-collection.pl on that
directory, then it would probably work great. But that is not how I
personally want to use the GIFT.
This is what I mean by saying it will be "replaced".
But it is clearly not a bug. It's by design, because of how the GIFT
was intended to be used. (I'm just not using it that way :-).
I would need a --no-image-paths option to make it not store the image
paths in the url2fts.xml file, since I just need the image names to
be presented by the gift server.
I thought you can get a behavior close to that by the proper choice of
prefixes (empty) in gift-add-collection.pl.
Yes, you're probably right. I haven't explored that option much since
I have to create my url2fts.xml file manually anyway (because of how I
store the images, etc)
But, I'll think about adding a --no-thumbnails option to gift-add-
collction.pl. After all I haven't really contributed to this project
yet, and I think it is about time I do.
This would be most appreciated.
I'll see what I can come up with...
