No, in fact, this is not the intended semantics (great word, huh? Let's say behavior.). The idea is that a default is supplied unless the user specifies a collection to run this algorithm on. AFAIR, currently there is no checking within the GIFT if an algorithm is allowed to be applied to the collection. Anyway this is a side issue as long as everybody uses Viper inverted file querying.
