thanks for pointing us to this problem (Ubuntu). Would you be interested in
actually compiling & installing a new version of GIFT "by hand"? Are you
able to receive big e-Mails?

Charmer is rarely a problem. The overwhelming majority of users who report
problems have in fact problems with JAVA's rights management.
