Documentation would help! I didn't know of this rule. I'll use \time
2/2 in such cases.

But, as another possibility, how about allowing a general
specification to be overridden by a specific one?
e.g. allowing
     beamAutoEnd = "1/2";
     beamAutoEnd_12 = "1/4";
to mean that all beams autoend at 1/2 except triplet 8ths?
This would require however that an autobeam entry in \paper cancel
_all_ entries in auto-beam-settings.ly and I don't know if this can
work with your data structures...
