fragments of midi files

Hi,
is there with lilypond to convert a fragment of a midi file, e.g.,
in terms of $n$ measures, into a dvi file? When I've tried to convert
a huge midi file with midi2ly, and then tried to translate that
into a latex file with lilypond, the resulting file was too big
(MikTeX latex reported that memory was exhausted).
