Occasionally I need to shorten or lengthen an individual stem length
to avoid collisions.

In the refman:
stemLength
Set length of stems. Unit is 'interline/2', so stemLength defaults to 7.

But, in a printout, stem lengths vary all over the place, and in
params.ly there are oodles of stem length modifiers for with and
without beams etc. I'd like to say 'bloody well set *this* stem
this length', then say 'revert to standard behaviour'. (This is
most important for stems in beams - individual notes can be shifted
horizontally, but beams wipe out whole parts sometimes.)

What is the safe way of doing that?

John
