JN: "The naming and use of vertical units of length are a big
mess."
After a few experiments, I have to agree :(
stemLength (as in the refman) doesn't seem to do anything.
stem_length0=5.0 shortens all stems with no beams to 3 or less;
since it doesn't shorten the tails, they look ridiculous...
(BTW, tails as they are, with the tail going right into the dot,
make it very difficult to read dotted eighths.)
Attempts to use forced_stem_shorten0 (to get rid of it or reverse
it) give Preprocessing elements... error: wrong identifier type,
expected: `Real_identifier'
So, I'll drop the subject for now, and just hope that the
autochange Staff staff-confusion and \bar bugs can be corrected
before Lily goes to 1.3.x.
