Maybe I don't understand the whole thing correctly, but I believe independence 
and autonomy from "below" can only come from taking DNS in our own hands, or an 
alternative to it.  I have kept an eye on the opennic project for years, it 
seems as an effort in the right direction, away from centralized control and 
state/corporate choke-holds.
Gnunet seems like a dream come true, I wish I knew enough to contribute.
