are specific to 32-bits or to 64-bits, 64 in the case of your machine).
My MacBook (Macbook2,1 -- mid 2007) has 32-bit-EFI and 64-bit-processor,
and I've successfully run both 32bit and 64bit Linuxes on it, although I
tend to boot them via grub-BIOS (depending on Linux versions etc., EFI
booting seemed to go wrong in various ways in the past when I tried it)
