Hi

Before the grub menu it is mostly down to the bios of the machine i think.  
Unless you have a Sony  then it might be worth upgrading the bios but i would 
avoid it unless it is painfully long.  Apparently some Sony product lines have 
a 
bios "upgrade" that prevents non-Windows Operating Systems from working but 
that 
might just be a rumour.
