I've done this with both GRUB legacy and GRUB2 and didn't really have any 
issues. In my case, two partitions, one for /boot and one for /, both setup as 
RAID 1 using mdadm and appear as /dev/md0 and /dev/md1 respectively. I think 
you need to provide more information on what you've done so far and exactly 
what you mean by "cannot make it boot."
