after guix-install.sh runs

I had a look at the documentation and got stuck in the rabbit hole (quite 
obstruse).  Running guix pull so far produced two errors the first to the 
effect that the guix store was in read-only mode and the second was that 
it couldn't get a socket.
What should I be reading next to clear these problems and get guix pull 
working correctly?
