Thomas did the API changes necessary, but Roland disagreed with code
destabilization at this time. The changes made by Thomas are still in CVS,
but in another branch.
Basically you replace the mmap with an array of mmaps.
I think as soon as gnu 0.3 is out of the door, support for stores larger
than 1gb will appear pretty soon.
If someone really wants it, he should check out the branch and continue what
Thomas started. This would not be incorporated in the main tree now, and the
details of the implementation might be changed in the actual version, but it
would be useful anyway to individual people.
