I use rogers too, and this is my script:

settrans -fg /servers/socket/2 \ 
    /hurd/pfinet --interface=eth0 --address=24.113.102.239 \ 
    --gateway=24.113.100.1 --netmask= 255.255.252.0

When you set it up, can you ping your gateway?  If not, gnumach may also 
not be seeing your network card correctly.
