Appropriate compiler for hurd?

Hi,   I have gcc 3.1 i686-pc-linux-gnu-gcc (etc.) which was built native for debian gnu/linux.   Can I use that to compile the hurd?  If not, how can I build a cross version for hurd.   Thanks,   Don Ziesig
