I think you are looking for 'cd /dev;./MAKEDEV -v hd2' Your boot log should show it hd0: HITACHI_DK23CA-30B, 7559MB w/2048kB Cache, CHS=1023/240/63, UDMA hd2: SONY CD-RW CRX700E, ATAPI CDROM drive You may have to initiate a /dev/klog to see that by doing the following. settrans -fgc /dev/klog /hurd/streamio kmsg cat /dev/klog > $CONSOLE_LOG & CAT=$!; sleep 5; kill $CAT > I only have a base system installed right now, > I need my CDROM drive to install the rest. If you have a network connection apt-get is a powerful installation tool. see the installation manual for details. http://web.walfield.org/papers/hurd-installation-guide/ > Two other small things: there is no 'shutdown' > command, just a 'reboot' command. > And when I type 'mount' (on it's own) my system > hangs (until I Ctrl-c). I found if you build it w/o optimization it doesn't hang, or if you are mounting :-) > Any help on the CD mounting issue would be > appreciated.
