This might sound silly -- still ...

The installed executable is 'make'. Create a soft link named 'gmake' or
'gnumake' as per your preference.

If this step isn't done, make sure that the correct make (GNU make
rather than /usr/ccs/bin/make) gets picked up when you invoke make from
the shell or it is invoked recursively.
