Upgrading gmake!

I have a problem with upgrading of GNU Make.
I have gmake 3.78.1 installed and I want to upgrade to 3.79.1.
I have downloaded a file make-3.79.1.tar.gz from ftp.gnu.org and I
unpacked it and ran ./configure;make;make install on it. If I then
checks the version och make with "make -v" it says that make 3.78.1
still is running!
What have I forgotten?
