make error

I am trying to assist some users who are having problems using gnu make.   We have a large group of designers who use make daily, however certain users are not able to run the tool.

The following error is coming up:

make: *** user_access: seteuid: Not owner.  Stop.

The makefile used does not affect the error, it happens even if there is no Makefile to be found.   The strangest thing is that it only affects certain users, most of which are third party contractors working at our site.

Any ideas on what may be the cause of this problem.
