In our globally included makefile here we have lines that look like
this:
--------------------------------------CUT---------------------------------------
# Bad gmake, never *ever* try to get a file out of source control by yourself.
%: %,v
%: RCS/%,v
%: RCS/%
%: s.%
%: SCCS/s.%
--------------------------------------CUT---------------------------------------
Try them out and see if that does the trick for you.
