You guessed my questions correctly, Paul > If the question is, is there some expected/anticipated way that this could give the behavior you're seeing, then the answer is "no".
> Is it possible there's a bug in the GNU make implementation on Windows which is causing this problem? Sure, bugs happen Basically, if I don't see any evidence that I am doing something wrong, then I will put in a workaround, something that checks, whether the number of lines in the file, matches the number of words in the string. But this is cumbersome, and certainly I would prefer if I made a bug somewhere which I could correct :) _______________________________________________ Help-make mailing list [email protected] http://lists.gnu.org/mailman/listinfo/help-make
