Thanks for that. You are right, "8.1 … Commas and unmatched parentheses or braces cannot appear in the text of an argument as written; leading spaces cannot appear in the text of the first argument as written. These characters can be put into the argument value by variable substitution." and $(subst this,that,this is a, text) are clearly at odds with each other. FAO make community, is there a case for addition of a clause that highlights the catch-all nature of the final argument of some of the built-in functions? -- Semen
