You may be able to use the -e option ...

check_http -I $HOSTADDRESS$ $ARG1$ -u $ARG2$ =e $ARG3$

ARG1 = IP address
ARG2 = website address
ARG3 = HTTP/1.1 200   (I believe this is the standard return code and what 
would be expected to be returned) so, if it gets any other code, it would 
return critical

Is there anyway for this check to go CRIT for a 404 response? If not, do you 
have any plugin suggestions for this functionality, or should I just create my
