Help Stop Gruesome Dissection Course
Dear PCRM member,
Can you help stop the gruesome dissection course currently taking
place at the Governor’s School in Virginia? The annual “Blood and
Guts” course, held each summer at Lynchburg College, involves the
unnecessary dissection of many different animal species. Pictures
from last
year’s course show shocking images of students engaging in
disturbingly inappropriate behavior toward the animals.
The students enrolled in this course are among the brightest high
school students in the state of Virginia, and many hope to pursue
careers in the medical field. But instead of instilling compassion
and sensitivity in these future physicians, the "Blood and Guts"
course teaches students that animal dissection is a necessary part
of pre-med education. It's alarming that these impressionable young
people are being taught to view animals with such a lack of respect,
especially when the many cost-effective, high-tech dissection
alternatives now available help teach important scientific
lessons as well as support compassion for animals.
We urge you to call, e-mail, or send
a letter to the following individuals as soon as possible and
ask them to use modern and humane alternatives in next year's "Blood
and Guts" course:
