Dear Mr. Michaels:

You could learn some empathy and compassion from Rikki Rockett. He was
absolutely right when he said that Greeley's "huge rodeo" meant "an enormous
amount of animal abuse." Rockett's having said this week that he wouldn't
have agreed to play at the concert Saturday night if he knew the Greeley
Stampede included a rodeo made him a hero to animals and people who care
about animals. You, on the other hand, sadly promoted animals' suffering
and are no hero to anyone.

Rodeo events consist of intentionally violent acts perpetrated on
defenseless animals. Hyper-macho men chase, harass, and brutalize terrified
victims. The men do it for their own amusement, or because they are addicted
to the rush of adrenaline it gives them. They give no thought to the
suffering.

Instruments of pain are used on calves, horses, bulls, and other animals.
Sharp sticks, tail-twisting, spurs, electric prods, and bucking straps are
the barbaric tools used to make bulls, horses, and baby calves act wild.
They cause the animals to endure broken necks, broken backs, and other
injuries that cause excruciating pain and death. There is nothing brave
about roping calves at speeds of up to 20 miles per hour and yanking them by
their necks so that they come crashing to the ground.

Further, the rodeo introduces children to legalized abuse and exploitation
of animals as entertainment. The effect of rodeo violence on children has
prompted some sponsors to end their association with the rodeo.

If the same acts were committed using cats, dogs, or any other popular
companion animal, these people would be jailed for animal cruelty.

Rodeo is not a sport. Sport is when BOTH sides know they're playing, choose
to participate, and know the rules! Humans play sports, animals act for
survival. When animals are up against humans, they don't stand a chance.

Sincerely,

~~~~~~~~Letter end~~~~~~~~~~~
Dear mr. Rockett:
Thank you for for speaking out against rodeo by saying in a statement
released by Showing Animals Respect and Kindness (SHARK) that Greeley's
"huge rodeo" meant "an enormous amount of animal abuse."  You are so right.
As you know, rodeo events consist of intentionally violent acts perpetrated
on defenseless animals.  Sharp sticks, tail-twisting, spurs, electric prods,
and bucking straps are the barbaric tools used to make bulls, horses, and
baby calves act wild.   These instruments of pain are used on calves,
horses, bulls, and other animals.  They cause the animals to endure broken
necks, broken backs, and other injuries that cause excruciating pain and
death.  There is nothing brave about roping calves at speeds of up to 20
miles per hour and yanking them by their necks so that they come crashing to
the ground.
Even worse, the rodeo introduces children to legalized abuse and
exploitation of animals as entertainment.   The effect of rodeo violence on
children has prompted some sponsors to end their association with the rodeo.
Rodeo is not a sport.  Sport is when BOTH sides know they're playing, choose
to participate,  and know the rules!  Humans play sports, animals act for
survival.  When animals are up against humans, they don't stand a chance.
I applaud your having said this week that you wouldn't have agreed to play
at the concert had  you known the Greeley Stampede included a rodeo.  I urge
you to stand up for your principles and stand your ground by refusing to
ever again perform at the Greeley Stampede, or anywhere else where animals
are subject to abuse.
You are truly a hero to animals and the people who care about them.
Sincerely,
COOL!  Thanks Susan Gordon <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> for sending the
contacts to write to Poison singer Bret Michaels about his heartless
position on rodeo, and a contact to thank Rikki Rocket for his humanity!  As
you know, I'm busy with political campaigns at present and don't have much
time left for animals until the election!!!   Because of Susan, I was
inspired to put together a couple of letters for you to edit and send.  I am
so grateful Susan.
"Poison" split over rodeo gig
By The Associated Press
Article Last Updated: 07/05/2008 12:51:45 AM MDT
GREELEY <ETH> Poison singer Bret Michaels says he was "shocked" to hear
drummer Rikki Rockett's comments about animal cruelty at the Greeley
Stampede and promised to "put on one hell of a big rock show" there despite
Rockett's concerns.
Michaels was responding to Rockett's comments this week saying he wouldn't
have agreed to play at the concert Saturday night if he knew the Greeley
Stampede included a rodeo. Rockett said in statement released by a group
called Showing Animals Respect and Kindness that Greeley's "huge rodeo"
meant "an enormous amount of animal abuse." Michaels said in a statement he
did not agree with Rockett's comments.
Rockett and Michaels founded the glam-metal band and had a string of hits in
the 1980s, including "Talk Dirty to Me." Rockett said he would still perform
with Poison Saturday night.
