Here's my advice, I've been running on hardy since october.

sudo apt-get install firefox-2

That should install FF2 in addition to FF3.

Now, you'll probably want separate profiles for each.
Open up terminal and type in "firefox-2 -P"
This will bring up the profile selector, create a new profile and name
it something like Firefox2.
Now you should have a separate mini-profile for FF2 so it doesn't
excrete a brick trying to run FF3 extensions.
