For a complete database backup, use yaml_db. (This works with any
Rails app if you install the plugin, but yaml_db is available
automatically on Heroku.)

Go to the rake console and run: db:dump

Reload your editor window, then go to the db folder in the lefthand
filenav and right-click data.yml and select download. You may also
want to download schema.rb, for a complete backup.

Also, the download link on the Import/Export tab automatically does a
db:dump, so the tarball you'll get from that will contain a current
backup of your database.
