I don't know if this is the problem, but Rails 2.2 added internal support for TLS. I wonder if the ActionMailer patch we've all been using to add TLS support so we can send email through Gmail is conflicting somehow. http://github.com/rails/rails/commit/732c724df61bc8b780dc42817625b25a321908e4
