I was confused here because I had already used your Snapshots backup
section which is outside the editor and had not bothered to look for a
commit area, thinking that the snapshot is the commit with message.

Both are clearly useful and offer slighly different reasons to exist.
I would suggest therefore putting the snapshot section in the editor,
along with the Commit Revisions, so that I can both make a snapshot
backup and commit in the same area while not having to name it the
same thing in two locations. It would then be clear what each part
does differently.  I would also be more likely to remove too many
autosnapshots after a fashion.
