Howdy Matthew, I eventually figured that out, but it *still* wasn't working for me for some reason. Mysteriously, an OS reboot did the trick.
Anybody who tells you that you never need to reboot OSX machines probably hasn't used one for very long. ;) Thanks for the willingness to help.
