They work great, for installing the gem itself. #3 is probably the most useful step, I got hung up on that initially and used json_pure. It's nice to know that 1.1.1 will work fine.
Setting the key initially took a fair amount of guess work, but I was able to get it working by reading through the mailing list and playing around. Most recently, I've been hitting this. http://groups.google.com/group/heroku/browse_thread/thread/7e96d84ba0193484 Pretty sure I'm stuck on the windows end of thing, who knows. On the plus side, it wasn't too tough just to set up an ubuntu vm and do my updates through there. I've been (finally) playing around with heroku and I must say that I'm very impressed, keep up the great work guys!
