Hi Unfortunately my first attempt at this email got lost, so I forgot now the exact error message I had. But basically, the database.yml file Heroku was generating for DataMapper (0.10) + PostgreSQL was causing errors related to the encoding.
I've filed a ticket for it on Lighthouse[1]. Has anyone else seen this problem? If so, please update the ticket. The DataMapper team are surprised by the behaviour of DataObjects in this situation. It's quite possible I'm doing something strange...
