I'm really looking for the simplest method of accomplishing this, so setting up another, non-heroku server isn't an option for me.
Also, gem manifests don't seem to support custom libraries: rtomayko 1 year ago @foca Right. Extension gems that require system libraries won't build without the system libs installed and we have no plans for automating that process at gem install time. We're in the process of building a list of gems that depend on system libs and plan to add support for them based on demand.
