Hey Pete, For the most part we recommend using one index per application per environment. Searching different kinds of models can be achieved by setting a 'type' field and using the a Solr Filter Query (fq) param to limit which documents you're searching.
Or perhaps you can describe your use case in a bit more detail for me?
