I think you are missing the point. Because Hessian works across different
languages, it needs to make sure that data is as consistent as possible
between these barriers.

Extending Hessian base data types lika date is one of the areas where
Hessian needs to make some hard decisions.

Of course, I am sure it would be possible to improve Hessian in some corner
cases, but is it worth the effort? Hessian is plenty fast and if you
understand the problem it is trying to solve, it works great.

As I more general note, I'd consider extending most java base classes to be
a sign of poor design anyway. In many cases, I believe a design can be
improved by using composition, like you did with your "workaround".
