For backward compatibility, the client uses a hessian 1 request but advertises that it understands hessian 2 in the request (using C 0x00 0x02). If the server understands hessian 2, it will reply with a hessian 2 response. Since responses tend to be big (taking advantage of hessian2 compaction) and requests are small, the performance should be about the same.
