These remind me very much of some of the projects described in "Paper Houses",
which is long out of print and usually expensive now, but sometimes shows up on
eBay cheaply:

While not as materials-efficient as the hexayurt, their projects also focused on
how best to minimize waste and number of cuts when using standard
dimension panels.

It's a great resource, though, and highly recommended. Some very creative
geometry in the plans, and it's really inspiring to see what people were doing
on the temporary housing front back in the 70s using simple cardboard. Great
photography of a number of finished projects, and a lot of the techniques are
even more applicable today using modern materials.

(please watch the reply-all, this is going to multiple mailing lists)

Based on a very different theoretical base to the Hexayurt, yet still coming to
a very similar conclusion - hexagonal buildings that use a strong geometric
roof shape that can be efficiently made with 4x8 panels. The structures have
less tensile elements than the hexayurt and the roof meets the wall at a slight
zig-zag, but otherwise the buildings are very, very similar. If you look at
some of the architectural visualizations in the second link... well... gosh,
that looks more or less like what I see the future as too.
Jacques (who is cc'd on this email) is one of the inventors of the system, and
I'm sure would answer questions if anybody has them.
Jacques, this is going out to http://STAR-TIDES.net (a disaster relief sort-of
think tank) and the Hexayurt mailing list.
