The most efficient shape would be parabolic, but granted they are difficult to
construct by hand -

you could also make a trough shape as easily as a cone, but they are generally
only practical for heating water by running a pipe down the focal point with
pumps and stuff. Saw several types of solar cookers recently at Maker Faire as
well, that used easy to find materials -

I would also point out that heat and temprature are different things. 100 deg.
C sounds like it would boil water but there might not be enough heat to be
practical. As an example, a lit cigarette is around 400-500C but not very
useful for cooking.

cheers,

fyi - my yurt at BM last year did a great job at 'cooking' my neighbors in
their tent. <grin>

Manufacturing this would be as simple as an aluminized sheet of plastic with a
locator hole where it is connected to make the ideal cone shape. Of course,
then you are into manufacturing something instead of just using a 4x8 sheet and
some glue and foil.

Anything non-flammable would work to raise a pot up into the focal point, if
that were even neccessary: The point might be right where a pot sits on the
bottom surface anyway.

Is there some way you could simplify this design? [that's a joke, probably
can't simplify this much. beyond making a different custom shape flat sheet]

Note: What is this sheet of material called, in Home Depot or some store like
that?
