I have a Toyota Previa with yakima racks and have transported the yurt several times this way. I haven't sandwiched the top and bottom as suggested below, but do wrap it in a tarp real tight and do find a small piece of ply help prevent straps from crushing the edges where I strap the stack to the racks. Last year I made simple wedge shaped 'nose' for my yurt stack, to improve the aerodynamics of dragging 1'+ tall stack on my roof. It really worked great.

Our 8ft fit just nicely on top of a Sprinter. It was 4 x 8 all around.
Sandwiched between plywood and held tight with ratchet straps.

Good luck with your yurting!

You can transport an 8 ft yurt on the roof of a VW van-brace top& bottom
with plywood. Use 6” tape......get extra, don’t be cheap. You can use 3”
aluminized tape on the edges.
