So embarrassed everyone... don't know how, but I missed that one of the triangles in the original design was not what I described... thought I checked it all, but apparently not. This shape can't really be made easily from all 4x8s quite as shown. See my correction if you're interested.
I came up with a fix... Kinda. It's a little bit ugly, but I think it might still work.
