I'd be v. leery about using Styrofoam. If you're doing the 
contact-cement-and-vinyl hinges, the contact cement will destroy the styrofoam 
on contact (heh)--it's really quite spectacular. And no tape I know will stick 
to it.

If you're in the Bay Area, call Economy Lumber in Oakland and see if they have 
panels.
