I think my panels are only 1" thick, but my hexayurt is all wrapped up at the top of a closet so I can't check it right now. I think you'll be okay, though. My setup was so rock solid that I think the pile could've been substantially thicker without causing any problems. If the aerodynamics are really awful and your car is getting blown around on the interstate, you might have to drive a little slower than usual. Happy yurting!
