Hi everybody.

I'm sure you know why I'm writing this now.

I have really limited ability to get people to change the way they build at
Burning Man. I try to steer a little when I can, but you build what you
build. I'm asking you, though, to stop and think hard now: "have I done
everything possible to manage fire risk in my structures at Burning Man?"

Obvious things:

* one smoke detector per hexayurt
- they cost five dollars. they should be absolutely standard in all
hexayurts

* two exits on opposite sides of each hexayurt

* standard precautions carefully observed: no naked flames, no smoking in
bed, that kind of stuff

* real thought on escape routes from multi-hexayurt structures.

I never want to see a story like Oakland come from the Playa, and I want
each one of us to do everything we can to prevent fire harming anybody in
our structures.

My deepest sympathies to all affected by the fire. I am so sad that this
has happened. May this never happen again, to anybody, anywhere.
