I am not sure whether my flight case is ATA approved (what is ATA anyway?), ATA approved means that the case is made to specifications that meet or exceed all the requirements set for the by the Airline Transport Association. They are made to take the abuse of road use. There are guitar cases that are ATA approved, as well as equipment racks, etc. They are more expensive but if you travel a lot, they would probably be worth the cost.
