For all you New Englanders out there-- La Musgaña, the excellent Spanish band, will be playing in the Boston area for the first time since 1998!
La Musgaña plays mostly traditional music from Central Spain and features Carlos Beceiro on hurdy gurdy and cittern, bass and other stringed instruments and Jaime Muñoz on gaita, clarinet, flute and other wind instruments. I haven't heard their current line-up (Quique Almendros, their pipe and tabor/gaita player had a massive stroke back in 2004, and has not recovered) but there are two new members on accordeon and fiddle. La Musgaña is one of my all time favorite groups, and I'm thrilled that Billie Hockett, the concert producer, is bringing them back again. She is promoting the concert with a hurdy gurdy slant, and plans to have several area gurdy players on hand during the intermission to answer the inevitable questions that arise. Details can be found at http://www.music-for-robin.org (781) 862-7837 but the basics are: Friday, Jan. 19, 2007 at 8 PM at the UU Church, 630 Mass. Ave, Arlington, MA (Arlington Center) Please pass the word around--this should be a really wonderful concert.
