http://www.tradfrance.com/a34.htm has good traditional French tunes (if you like them - I do) in abc and dots for downloading (lots of tunes here). All divided into different classes - Bourees, waltz, Polka etc and they take very little space on the PC. It's a diatonic accordion site but most will play on HG. They are mostly (all?) in C or G as well . Needless to say, the free ABC2Midi will convert them to Midi so that you can hear what they sound like. You can then print out the dots and follow them so it should help with the music reading as well (I record the midi to disc and play it, then try to play the same bit play myself from the music and so on - it works for me anyway)..
