Do you have a piano? If so you can use that to get  you in the ball park.

Just tune the melody string ( that is the one that has all the keys tuching it ) to D, just about middle C.

Then tune the string that has the buzzing bridge on it ( that would be the one closest to your body ) to the same D.

and then go and have tun.  Usualy we set up each string so that as you turn the tuning peg counter clockwise it raises the pitch. But your Tekero might not follow that set up.

What kind of songs do you play?

 

Well when I first started playing as an adult ( when I was 5 or six I just made my own music ) I just played any tune that came into my head. Mostly pop music or some folk songs. It was not untill I had been playing for about 6 months that I found out about French folk music for the HG.

 

Now I mostly play French folk music with a little bit of Hungarian folk music thrown in for good luck.

I also play Baroque and Rennaisance music too. They fit nicely on the keyboard and sound nice with the drones.

I also play some Scottish stuff too .

I bought my strings from the net: musicmakers www.harpkit.co. They were the cheapest and very helpful.

 

Where did you find the notes for Frere Jacques? We used to sing it at home and would love to be able to play this song on the hurdy.
