When I lived in Pensacola, Florida I worked as a volunteer on some finds dredged up from a ship that sank in the bay in 1559. Some of the extremely corroded finds were x-rayed and/or cat scanned by one of the local hospitals. At least for the ones I saw, the equipment was temporarily re-located to the conservation facility. Obviously they weren't worried about any warranties being invalidated, and they enjoyed the publicity.
