Any tips, advice or words of wisdom from people about the festival

For many people the dance at the village square from midnight to eight in the morning is the only reason to go to St. Chartier, don't miss it. Its usually first happening in the night before the festival starts and ends on monday morning. On Saturday its usually too crowded to be enjoyable.

Do some cruising at the big camping. Many people never enter the gated festival area. You will discover things you couldn't immagine, from hammersmith to indian dining.

be prepared for all kinds of weather from close to freezing(2-4°C) to unbearable hot(35-38°C). It is quite likely that it will rain and its possible that it does'nt get dry during te whole festival. So be prepared that there is no dry place to go and if you stay at the camping to buy one of your own, like a party-tent for ~20 Euro (and some chairs).

The only bearable "bathrooms" are thouse inside the gated festival area, you pay some 30ct and enjoy, but they are open only during the day and the evening concerts. Be prepared for the worst and unimaginateable "bathroom"-situation in the night and at the camping. Showers are cold (and also dirty).

or things not to miss or area day trips…kid stuff…?

visit the church in Vic(1.5 km): XI century wall-paintings in a country-side church. Also visit the house of George Sands in Nohant (2km) - a very nice 18th-19th century interior.
Next medieval fortification to visit is in Sarzay.

Very nice rural food market at the spot, very nice bakery that also offers a bit of basic food backup. Very nice traditional food in the two restaurants in the village, in vic and arround. Rather narrow offers for vegetarians or non alcohlic beverages. Next supermarkets in La Chatre. If you like old fashioned stores go for the quincaillerie (hardware store) in the Rue National in La Chatre.
