Hello,

I looked almost everywhere to find a good system to amplify my HG’s and still find a good mike the best. So, I decided to buy an electro-acoustic HG for stage and recording purposes (official version: in fact I want a new toy!). Talking electro-acoustic one automatically thinks Siorat. Siorat isn’t cheap and it takes a while before you have the instrument. It wouldn’t be very intelligent to pin myself on one builder without “prospecting the market”.

Are there alternatives (Weichselbaumer, Seidler, ……) and how do they relate to a Siorat HG (which, to my experience, is a dream to play on)?
What are the lists experiences with electro-acoustic HG’s?
In short, I need help to make a decision.

As far as I know Alex Seidler is not building hurdy-gurdies at the moment.

Weichselbaumer is a serious alternative to Siorat. The Weichselbaumer instruments are generally full acoustic instruments, they can be set up signifiantly louder at full dynamic range than the Siorat ones I know, which are more the semi accoustic type. My experience with recent the Siorat instruments is limited. If you test Weichselbaumers instruments test the Allegro first. It is a full sounding standard instrument that will meet all your needs as log as you do not need a melody range down to viola c and four melody-strings. Weichselbaumers build in mikes, piezos and pre amps are top quality, developed in colaboration with a HiFi engineer to meet the needs of professional players.
Many of worlds top players are Weichselbaumer customers.

The only other maker I am aware of who seriousely is into amplyfied gurdies is Helmut Gotschy. Maybe others on the list can contribute more makers who regulary make professional electro-acoustic HG’s.

kind regards

Simon
